Università per Stranieri di Perugia: Seminar "Coming to Italy to Study at University. Entry, Stay, Study, Work", 8 May 2024

On May 8th, the University for Foreigners of Perugia is organizing the seminar "Coming to Italy to Study at University. Entry, Stay, Study, Work." The event is part of the seminar series "The Migration Phenomenon in Italy. Challenges and Perspectives," carried out thanks to the Third Mission activities of the University.

The number of international students enrolled in Italian universities has been steadily increasing for about a decade, and the University for Foreigners of Perugia ranks first in foreign student admissions (data referring to the academic year 2021/22), with almost one in three students coming from abroad (28.4% of those enrolled in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs). The interventions of the day will analyze various aspects related to this phenomenon, from difficulties related to immigration bureaucracy, to learning the Italian language, inclusion in the classroom, to the complicated integration into the job market.

Within the rich program of the seminar, we highlight two moments in representation of the University of Padua and the Human Rights Center A.Papisca: Professor Sara Pennicino, coordinator of the master's degree in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance, will give a talk entitled "International Students Enrolled in International Degree Programs: Challenges and Opportunities," and Dr. Elisa Gamba, a doctoral student in the 39th cycle of Human Rights, Society, and Multi-level Governance, will give a talk entitled "The Integration of Refugees and Students at Risk in the University System."
